TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
Curved body with leather covered wood for TJ and MJ. Black stained or lacquered bell.
Silver keys with flat octagonal flaps type Young-N, the lever being soldered to the keyhead.
SATK (springs attached to the key).
Key-holes flattened out.
Raised key mounts not circular.
3rd hole doubled with finger cove.
Gilded festoons at the extremities of TJ and MJ and on the back, where the leather is glued together.
Bulb bell with 2 vent-holes.

Excellent condition. Traces of a repaired crack in Bell. MJ sideways warped.

1 bocal (not clear if original) in nickel silver 97mm ø 3.0mm + 5.7mm. Mahillon (R1978) Vol.V p.91 mentions a bocal in brass. One reed (not clear if original), which is bassoon-like, made with two wires and no staple.

UP ?> Usable Pitch
No good playing result was obtained with the present bocal. Best playing result was obtained with a bocal 93mm ø 2.7mm + 5.8mm and a reed TL 49mm / staple 27mm / tip width 9.5mm, giving A = c.435Hz.

The instrument has a huge amount of resistance, making the playing very hard. Uneven intonation.
