TECHNICAL DESCRIPTION
System no.4 ‘Charles Triebert’ keywork. Round lipped key flaps.
L2 ring closes a vent-hole under half hole plateau to improve c2.
C-C# keys close the F# vent-hole to improve d3.
3rd hole doubled with finger cove.
No vent-holes or inner rim in bell.
Metal lining: reed well, TJ tenon, MJ and B sockets, bell end.

Very good condition. Wood body in excellent condition despite some scratches and a short crack in bell. Guidance pillar of Eb-key half broken. Instrument in fairly good playing condition.

A = c.438Hz with reed TL 71mm / staple 47mm / tip width 7.2mm, and with reed TL 68.9mm / staple 42mm / tip width 7.7mm.

PC ?> Performance Characteristics
Warm, dark and powerful sound. Intonation a litte uneven, might get better with some little adjustments. Easy emission. C2 with L2 rather good. Short fingerings as well as long fingerings work well.

Remarks
This instrument matches almost exactly the no.4 oboe of the 1855 Triebert Catalogue p.4, except for the B-C# trill key which is placed now on the same axle as the 2nd octave key. This slightly sophisticated improvement could possibly point towards a later type then 1855.
As seen in the 1855 Catalogue, the mark no.4 is indeed shorter than the older types 1, 2 and 3.
There is a fingering chart for this oboe type in the 1863 French translation of Sellner’s Oboe Method (Paris: Richault).
