Remarks
The ivory mount is in an unusable place, being above the MJ tenon. This might either be a repair (although no visible cracks could be found on MJ end), either an addition or a solution for a turnery mistake.
It is not clear whether the bell is stained in ‘tortoiseshell imitation’, and why only the bell. Compare with the Beuker oboe from The Hague Gemeentemuseum. See Van Acht, Bouterse & Dhont (1997) p.76 for this. According to Marcel Ponseele this pattern is rather the result of a failed coloration process.
This does not seem to be a compilation instrument.
